Using a common centerline allows better exchange of information about the roadway system and provides opportunities for more efficient collection of information about that roadway asset. Some centerlines were created in house using imagery, GPS data, and SHA's HPMS database and others were received from county governments and updated in house using imagery, GPS data and SHA's HPMS. The centerline data includes 2006 HPMS updates/improvements. This data is needed for emergency response and management, routing buses and other vehicles, planning for land use and transportation needs, continuity of roadway data and display at county boundaries leading to the same "look and feel" across jurisdictions, tracking assets on and along the roadway network, producing maps at various scales, and numerous other applications. Reasonable care has been taken to assure the attributes in the Centerline accurately reflect attribution in the data files supporting the HPMS submission. Errors may have occurred during the production stage of the data; therefore, users are advised to verify all attributes before making final decisions. The Centerline is subjected to rigorous quality testing to assure that attribution reflects the ongoing roadway inventory attribution. Arc geometry is compared with GPS data collected as part of the roadway inventory data and to the best available aerial photography. The attributed centerline is compared to the roadway inventory to assure that there is a one-to-one correspondence of route designators between the two systems. The roadway inventory system is also updated on an annual basis with additions, deletions and changes to roadways open to public use. These modifications are then field-verified before inclusion in the roadway inventory. Approximately accurate to a scale of 1:12000 or greater. The map was created using Maryland State Plane coordinate 5000 foot grid values based on 1983/1991 North American Datum (NAD) HARN. 5000 foot values for the 1983 NAD meters are shown in italics for reference purposes only. The Centerline was created by digitizing GPS data and referencing satellite imagery. It was then attributed with data from the HPMS database which ensured a 1 to 1 relationship between the roadway centerline and roadway inventory data. Some private (non publicaly maintained/non inventoried) roads may be included but will have a GEOMEDIT code of 'P'.
